Study/research: Development and validation of a quantitative point-of-care test for the measurement of severity biomarkers to improve risk stratification of fever syndromes and enhance child survive
PI/PIS: Dr. Lola Madrid/ Professor Nega Assefa
Lead Institution: Haramaya University and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
Implementation Year: 2023-2027
Status of the project: In Progress
Funder: Horizon 2020
Project Summary
To develop and clinically validate a rapid test and assess the potential impact of such a risk-stratification tool in terms of guiding management decisions, improving short and long-term outcomes and reducing child mortality.
Aiming to contribute the reduction of child mortality improving the way we screen, and risk-stratify patients with fever, an area where there is ample room for improvement and innovation by developing and clinically validate a rapid test based on a magneto-actuated biosensor for quantitative assessment of TREM-1 and Ang-2 at the point of need; and assess the potential impact of such a risk-stratification tool in terms of guiding management decisions, improving short and long-term outcomes and reducing child mortality.
